East Budleigh FC captain and hall of famer Dan Reynolds has applauded the club after signing Hugo Demetre on a permanent basis following a short loan spell last season.
Demetre signed for the Blue Jays this summer for an undisclosed fee, having spent a short loan at the club from neighbours Budleigh and Reynolds has praised the impact the new signing has had on the club. He said: “He [Demetre] is a class act, his professionalism and experience has really shown during pre-season and his work rate is unmatched.
“Hugo brings a new level of football to the club and he has led from the front since his arrival and has showed the rest of the team where the standard should be.”
Following a turbulent season last year in which the club dropped to Division 3, Reynolds is confident that his side will bounce back far stronger after a great transfer window: “We suffered last season with a poor squad and a change of management and we couldn’t recover in time to avoid the drop which was a real shame.
“But having attracted some quality players to the club in the summer, there is a new lease of life within the changing room and we now have a great combination of youth and experience which is something that has been missing over the years.”
Having signed for the club back in 2011, Reynolds was made captain having worked his way through the ranks and was added to the East Budleigh Hall of Fame at the end of 2015. He said: “It’s still the pinnacle of my career having my name be amongst the elite, but my focus is solely on this season and seeing the club develop and finally fulfil its massive potential.”
Manager Matt Jones echoed his captain’s words and believes that the side will be a force to be reckoned with this season. He said: “We’ve had the heartache of relegation and we’ve now recovered.
“We’re determined to bounce back and I am confident that we will do just that and at the same time, get back to enjoying our football.”
