East Budleigh Reserves registered their first win of the campaign at neighbours Exmouth Amateurs last Saturday.
Manager Colin Jeans returned to the fold after recently tie-ing the knot and his young side produced a mature and resilient display in what were difficult windy conditions.
Playing with the Breeze in the first half Budleigh we’re on top from the start pushing the home side back and went ahead after 5 minutes; A long kick from Drew Shorrock saw Brad Branton win a throw from which the aerially dominant Dan Atkinson flicked on, the hosts tried to clear but the ball came back to Atkinson who sweetly scored with his right foot.
Callum Wade was creative for Budleigh and saw Corbin Couch go close to a second, but Couch did not have to wait long as another Branton throw led to Atkinson turning provider as he side footed home.
When threatened the Budleigh defence of Rich Wyatt, Rory Waite, Toby Gilbody and Luke Fletcher remained solid.
After the break Budleigh had to soak up the pressure; Ammies pulled one back, but Shorrock and his defence held firm.
In a fine team performance Man of the Match was Atkinson, whilst Halsey, Couch and Waite all did well.
This Saturday Budleigh will hope for the same when they host Tedburn St Mary.
