The students of Exeter University were the visitors to Vicarage Road last Saturday and an accomplished fit and quick side ran out winners by the odd goal.
After just 4 minutes the away side took the lead from the penalty spot, but only 3 minutes later Budleigh had one of their own. Matt Jones took a well struck free-kick that hit the bar. When Ben Wilks chased down the rebound he was brought down leaving Jack Hocking to calmly dispatch the kick. The visitors had a fair amount of the game and should have gone back in front midway through the half, although Budleigh could also have scored again when Matt Jones, Liam Mabin and Josh Whiller we’re all involved in setting up Hockings whose shot was charged down.
At the other end Jones was producing a dominant defensive display as the sides went in level.
Six minutes into the second half University were gifted a second goal and but for a good stop from keeper Mark Bown it would have been three.
In the closing minutes substitute George Harris had a shot tipped over and Hugo Demetre headed wide from a Mabin corner.
This Saturday Budleigh will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to Honiton
