Performance of the weekend went to East Budleigh who came from behind at the break to beat league leaders Bampton with goals from Hugo Demetre, George Harris and Jack Rowland.
It was the away side who had the better of the first half and took the lead with a soft penalty on the half hour, but despite this Budleigh were defending well. Matt Jones cleared off the line and keeper Mark Bown saved well.
The closest Budleigh came was from Harris whose shot was tipped over on the stroke of half-time. Bampton went close to a second but Adam and Matt Jones, Jack Morgan and Jack England were defending tenaciously with Dan Reynolds in front.
Both Ben Wilks and Ben Wiltshire joined the action and on 65 minutes. A good move involving Rowland, Madison Shaw and Wilks led to Harris going close. A minute later Budleigh were level; Adam Jones with the perfect free-kick for Demetre who rose smartly to head over the keeper into the net.
The impetuous was now with Budleigh who were ahead five minutes later when Rowland’s shot was saved only for Harris to pick up the pieces and score. Rowland then hit the upright before getting his deserved goal following fine approach play from Harris and Demetre to seal the Man of the Match award and the win.
This was an excellent three points for a Budleigh side who finish their campaign at home to Perry Street on Saturday 4th February.
