East Budleigh completed their Macron Devon & Exeter league campaign last Saturday against now league leaders Perry Street with a battling display.
Despite the scoreline Budleigh we’re in the game until two late goals sealed their fate.
After just ten minutes Madison Shaw had a shot cleared off the line after Hugo Demetre and Ben Wilks had combined and it was the latter who also had a goal bound effort denied.
In between the away side had taken an 18th minute lead and but for keeper Mark Bown coming off his line to smother another chance for the visitors it would have been two.
The second goal when it did come on 32 minutes was a very good team goal.
Felix Ford joined the action for the second half, closely followed by other substitutes Dan Atkinson and Ben Wiltshire as Budleigh tried to change the game; It was the latter that fired wide with a speculative shot soon after.
Bown was again in the action with a couple of smart saves, whilst Atkinson went close on a couple of occasions following set pieces from Jack England and Ford respectively.
Goal number three came in the 76th minute as Budleigh went to three at the back with Matt Jones joining the frontline and it was Jones that saw his long range drive just clear the bar.
Three minutes from the end Perry Street completed the win with their fourth goal.
For Budleigh Adam Jones produced a fine performance.
East Budleigh Reserves saw their game at Central postponed and this Saturday they entertain St Martin’s at Vicarage Road. Kick off 3pm.
