East Budleigh Reserves got off to a flyer in their first Macron Devon & Exeter league fixture last Saturday with a thumping victory over Bradninch.
The hosts played well but were helped by some poor defending from the visitors; Budleigh were six up at the break, but it could have been ten.
Ryan Britton had an effort cleared off the line before Budleigh went ahead in the 17th minute; Corbin Couch took the corner that got a touch from Lewis Flectcher, but the last touch was off a Bradninch defender.
A minute late it was 2-0; Dan Atkinson with the assist for Couch who dinked the ball neatly into back of the net.
Wave after wave of Budleigh attacks saw Ben Wilks centre for Atkinson to score his first of a headed hat-trick; On the half hour Couch headed in a ball from Joe Day to the back post for number four.
Another Couch corner saw Joe Walker stoop to head home on his return to the club and a minute from the break Mark Bown produced a fine individual goal beating a couple of players before finishing well.
Four minutes into the second half Atkinson headed number seven, but they had to wait until the 82nd minute for the eighth as Bradninch defended a lot better; The goal came from another corner this time taken by Steve Davey and it was Fletcher who set up Bown for his brace.
A minute late the away side had the best moment of their afternoon getting themselves on the scoresheet with a well struck free-kick.
The rout was completed with a fine move involving Davey, Mathew and substitute Kai Guise who crossed for Atkinson to complete his treble.
Mathew it was who was voted Man of the Match for a Budleigh side who are in Geary Cup action this Saturday at Kenn Valley Utd (kick-off 2pm)
The First X1 will want to forget their start to the season beaten 3-1 at Dawlish in Division 2.
Despite starting well they found themselves a goal behind at the interval. A quarter of an hour into the second period Dawlish went two up, before debutant Liam West pulled a goal back.
Unfortunately the home side scored again to seal the win.
This Saturday Budleigh will hope for a better performance when they entertain Bampton in the Bill Slee Cup at Vicarage Road (kick- off 2pm).
