East Budleigh FC Match Report 09/09/17

East Budleigh Reserves showed great character to come back from a two goal deficit and gain a share of the spoils at Millwey Rise last Saturday.

Budleigh began well and were rarely troubled at the back and as the half wore on had chances to score; Dan Atkinson struck a post and also fired another effort over after a good cross from debutant Josh Rowland.

Moments before the break the hosts broke away and took the lead against the run of play.

Budleigh began the second half again on top, but it was Millwey who went further ahead, before Budleigh staged their comeback; Ryan Britton provided the assist for Atkinson who made no mistake this time.

Another debutant Kev Hocking and Simon Coughlan both joined the action and ten minutes from the end Budleigh were awarded a corner; The kick from Liam Mathew found its way to Britton whose shot was turned in by Rory Waite.

Gareth Morrey was named Man of the Match for a Budleigh side who entertain Millwey Rise 1st team in the Intermediate Cup next Saturday at Vicarage Road (kick-off 2pm).

The First X1 will want to forget their meeting with Honiton quickly after being beaten 4-0.

Having to make changes for varying reasons they also lost Adam Jones to injury 18 minutes in.

Budleigh had their chances in the first half; Hugo Demetre had his shot saved and it was the delivery of set plays by George Harris that saw Budleigh go agonisingly close on more than one occasion.

The visitors twice hit an upright, once from a penalty kick before squeezing in an opening 44th minute goal.

Budleigh never really recovered in the second half and after going two behind committed to attack and were punished twice more.

Substitute Jack England went closest to a consolation late on for a Budleigh side who need to restore some confidence when they visit neighbours Woodbury in the Devon Senior Cup this Saturday (2pm).
