East Budleigh Match Report 16/09/17

East Budleigh booked their place in the second round of the Devon Senior Cup with a fine victory at neighbours Woodbury last Saturday.
A double from Ben Wilks and a solitary strike from George Harris saw a Budleigh side progress despite missing some first team regulars.
Both sides passed the ball well in the first half and chances came and went at both ends before Budleigh grabbed the initiative; Leigh Rice set up Wilks who slotted the ball neatly past the Woods stopper to give Budleigh a half-time advantage.
Ten minutes into the second period the home side were back on level terms, but Budleigh restored their lead on the hour; Harris picked up a clearance from the home defence and sent his long range effort into the net.
The third for Budleigh came courtesy of a long throw from Nathan Penhallurick which was flicked into the path of Wilks,  who put daylight between the teams.
In the closing stages the hosts pulled a goal back, but Budleigh held on well for the win.
Jacob Rice and Joe Day both produced good displays for a Budleigh side that host Kentisbeare this Saturday in League 2.
East Budleigh Reserves put up a brave fight against a Millwey Rise side from three leagues higher,  and even led at the interval in this Intermediate Cup tie.
It was Budleigh that struck first; With 18 minutes on the clock Liam Mathew curled a beauty into the top corner to give Budleigh the lead.
The visitors levelled on the half hour, but Budleigh were 2-1 ahead before the break; Gareth Morrey had his shot blocked only for Kev Hocking to find the back of the net with a tidy finish.
Steve Davey and Adam Wheatley were defending stoutly for Budleigh, but two goals in two minutes turned the game on its head seven minutes after the re-start.
Millwey went on to stamp their authority on the game as Budleigh tried to get back in the tie.
Joe Walker added a third consolation for a Budleigh side who should take heart from their first half efforts when they visit Amory Green Rovers in division 8 this Saturday.
