East Budleigh Match Reports 14/10/17

DEVON SENIOR CUP – EAST BUDLEIGH 1 PLYMPTON 2
In what was an even game it was visitors Plympton that progressed to the next round of the Devon Senior Cup last Saturday.
Budleigh began promisingly with George Harris linking up well with front pair Jacob Rice and Hugo Demetre, but it was the away side that opened their account midway through the half.
The Jays deservedly levelled six minutes before half-time; Harris nodded the ball back into the box and it was Ross Bright who produced a tidy left foot finish.
Bright again went close after the interval striking the upright when fed by a fine Demetre pass, before Plympton regained the lead from an in swinging corner that Budleigh keeper Dean Rawlings was unable to keep out.
Minutes later Rawlings tipped another effort over the bar as the away side looked to add to the score.
Adam Jones came closest to forcing extra-time when the Plympton keeper pushed his header over the bar from a Harris corner.
This Saturday Budleigh return to league action at Axminster in League Division 2.
DIVISION 9 – SANDFORD 0 EAST BUDLEIGH RESERVES 5
East Budleigh Reserves moved to the top of the table on goal difference with an excellent win at Sandford.
Budleigh were off to the perfect start within five minutes; A trademark free-kick from Mark Bown was converted nicely by Dan Atkinson.
Budleigh continued to press but the hosts gave Budleigh a couple of scares before number two arrived; Atkinson scoring his second when set up be the stomach of Rory Waite.
The second period saw Budleigh continue in the same vain and it was Man of the Match Ben Wilks that ran from the halfway line before finishing well from twenty yards out.
A long range effort from Liam Mathew made it 4-0 before Kev Hockings completed a good all round afternoon for the Jays with a fifth.
This Saturday Budleigh entertain Otterton at Vicarage Road in what should be an interesting local derby.
The guys would like to know if the headline for this game could read ‘Rory Waite gut helps set up win’.
