East Budleigh Match Reports 25/11/17

DIV 2 East Budleigh 3 Dawlish FC 3

In what was an eventful fixture at Vicarage Road last Saturday both sides had to settle for a share of the points.

Once again the surface was superbly prepared by groundsman Richard Slade and it was the visitors who found it to their liking with a goal scored in the first minute.

Budleigh’s response came three minutes later; George Harris with another assist for the head of Hugo Demetre who levelled the score.

Dawlish were having a lot of the ball but not really threatening the Budleigh goal and it was the Jays who were having the chances; Matt Jones flicked on a ball from Ross Bright which saw Jacob Rice curl a shot just wide and it was Rice who was also denied again picking up the rebound from a Liam West shot.

Six minutes into the second period Budleigh went ahead; Brights’ corner was met by Steve Hitchcock, West got a touch, but it was Rice who applied the final touch.

Nine minutes later Dawlish equalised from a corner although keeper Dean Rawlings seemed to be fouled as the ball came in.

The momentum then swung towards the away side who went 3-2 up midway through the half, but Budleigh were not going to lie down, West had a couple of tries and Jones headed against the post when set up by Harris.

With five minutes remaining it was Harris who again centered for captain Dan Reynolds who produced an exquisite flicked finish.

Hitchcock headed wide late on to bring a hectic entertaining match to an end.

Man of the Match went to Demetre for a Budleigh side who visit Bow this Saturday.

After taking their time to settle it was Budleigh who took the lead ; A cross from Tom Christian was only half cleared and it was Ben Wilks who followed up to score.

The hosts were a bit lucky to equalise, but then also went ahead .

Minutes before the break Dan Atkinson finished off a free-kick kick from Mark Bown to make it 2-2.

Both teams went in search of a second half winner ; Pinhoe struck again before Atkinson gave Budleigh a point with his wind assisted finish for his 15th goal of the season.

It was no surprise that Atkinson was named Man of the Match for Budleigh who host Tedburn St Mary at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
