East Budleigh Match Reports


With a number of fixtures outstanding and a pitch not playable Honiton agreed to reverse this one and play at East Budleigh in what was an excellently contested game.

As a team Budleigh worked hard and deserved their share of the spoils, going close a quarter of an hour in; A well struck Liam Mabin corner saw both Liam West and Matt Jones strike the bar.

Honiton had a couple of good opportunities to score, but Budleigh’s back three of Jones, Joe Day and Mabin were doing well.

In the Budleigh engine room, West, Hugo Demetre and Dan Reynolds were sharp in the tackle.

Budleigh went close when the industrious Jacob Rice fed West,  his cross was headed over by Jack Howarth.

Five minutes before the break Honiton stole in at corner to open the scoring.

Budleigh got the perfect tonic with a leveller a minute after the re-start; Howarth, Liam Matthew and Demetre all involved as West stabbed the ball home.

Dan Atkinson then had a great chance to give Budleigh the lead, but was unable to keep his shot below the bar.

As the game wore on Honiton looked the more likely; Budleigh keeper Dean Rawlings made a couple of top saves and player Manager Jones produced a top drawer saving tackle to complete his Man of the Match performance.


East Budleigh Reserves will be mightily pleased with this result last Saturday at Tedburn with a brace from Ben Wilks helping them to victory.

Budleigh Began well playing some nice football which was causing the hosts problems and were rewarded when a shot from Wilks found its way under the Tedburn keeper.

Five minutes late the home side equalized, but it was Budleigh who restored their lead before the break; A shot from Nathan Penhallurick hit the post and it was Tom Christian who fired in the rebound.

Budleigh began the second period as they finished the first; Penhallurick with an assisted cross for Joe Walker who neatly found the bottom corner, but it was soon 3-2 as Tedburn pulled one back.

The fourth for Budleigh was a first and well celebrated goal for Jack Morgan supplied by a Walker cross, before Wilks added his second and Budleigh’s fifth.

Penhallurick completed a good afternoon adding his name to the scoresheet to complete a fine afternoons work.

For Budleigh Kai Guise had a frustrating afternoon in front of goal, but the main thing for him is to remain positive and calm and his scoring touch will return.

On Saturday Budleigh host Cheriton Fitzpaine at Vicarage Road.


Last Saturday saw East Budleigh produce a good all round team display to pick up three points at Newtown.

Budleigh controlled the game from the start and could well have added more.

The goals were shared as Jacob Rice, Hugo Demetre, Liam West, George Harris and Dan Atkinson all struck for the Jays.

Man of the Match went to Demetre, just shading the performance of captain Dan Reynolds.

This Saturday Budleigh are at Bampton for their league encounter.
